Cider is produced with apples, or more precisely Cider apples. With an alcohol content of between 2° and 9°, Cider comes from the fermentation of agricultural apple juice. Cider is a sparkling alcoholic drink, which is produced in many countries all over the world. You can find Ciders from France, Canada, the Unites States, Nepal, Germany, Belgium, Denmark, Spain, Ireland, Italy, Great Britain, Sweden or even Switzerland. In the United States Cider is called “hard cider” to differentiate it from sparkling apple juice called “cider”. “Hard Cider,” contrary to traditional cider is produced with the must of fresh apples, concentrated apple must or a mixture of both elements. “Hard Cider” has an alcohol content of around 2° to 9°. - Sweet Cider: Cider with a volume of alcohol of 3° and under, which is rich in apple aromas
- Medium dry cider: Cider between 3° and 5° alcohol content which is quite sweet
- Dry Cider: Cider with an alcohol content of 3° to 5° not very sugary
- Traditional Cider: Cider over 5° alcohol content, with a cloudy appearance produced mainly in the agricultural regions notably Spain (The Basque Country and Asturias) and France (Normandy and Brittany)
- Rosé Cider: Cider produced with red apples (notably the Royal délice variety)
- Hard Cider: Cider between 2 and 9° generally produced with bitter-sweet apples which give body to the beverage.
